Robert P. Corwin, 38, of Sikeston, charged with embezzlement by Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney Phil Ayers. Corwin allegedly failed to deposit the nightly receipts, $19,351 in cash, after the Labor Day sales event at the Dexter Wal-Mart on Sept. 3 and Sept. 5, and did not show up for work the next morning. Nearly $28,000 in cash and checks were reported missing; some $7,975.50 in missing checks were found in his car, which was impounded. Sheriff Ralph Mouser reported Corwin has relayed word through Mrs. Corwin that he wants to give himself up.

Robert P. Corwin of Sikeston, a Dexter Wal-Mart store employee charged with embezzlement, has mailed 'most' of the cash allegedly taken to his wife. Missing since Tuesday, Sept. 6, when a warrant charging him with embezzlement was issued by Stoddard County authorities. Package mailed from New Mexico was received by Corwin's wife at the Corwin home in Sikeston yesterday; she called authorities and Stoddard County deputy Max Ellison opened the package at the Corwin home. Package contained 'a little over $19,000' while the original investigation said $19,351 was missing. Most of the checks were found in Corwin's car, located at Lambert Field in St. Louis earlier this week. Corwin had apparently been in contact with his ill wife in Sikeston.
