Named superintendent of Bernie schools; sixth day on the job as of Sept. 8, 1977. Age 35, one of the youngest school superintendents in Southeast Missouri. Graduated Bernie High School with the class of 1962. Parents Mr. and Mrs. Russell Dawson still live in Bernie; brothers Bruce and Tom Dawson are farmers in the Bernie area; wife is the former Miss Penny Carson, from Bernie. Previously high school principal at Holcomb for six years; taught high school social science at Poplar Bluff (one year) and Malden (four years); undergraduate degree from Arkansas State University at Jonesboro; master's in education from Southeast Missouri State University at Cape Girardeau. Pulliam, Charlie Jennings, Dean Crow, Shirley Stephens, Bryon Pointer and Steve Smee; high school principal Don Lee and elementary principal Loy Slinkard attended. Dawson succeeds Elmer "Doc" Dunn as superintendent.
